Angelika Nussberger

Angelika Nussberger (born 1963) is a German legal scholar and Slavist. She taught constitutional, international and comparative law at the University of Cologne. From 2011 to 2019, she served as a judge at the European Court of Human Rights, and from 2017 to 2019 as its vice president. After returning to the University of Cologne, she became the founding director of its Academy for European Human Rights Protection. Earlier, she worked at the Max Planck Institute for Foreign and International Social Law in Munich. She studied law and literature as well as German, Russian and French philology in Munich, Würzburg, Moscow and Boston.
