Ulrich Woelk (born 1960) studied physics and philosophy in Tübingen and received his doctorate from TU Berlin in 1991. He worked there as an astrophysicist until 1994 before turning to literature. His debut novel, “Freigang,” was published in 1990 and received the Aspekte Literature Prize. His work includes novels, short stories, and plays, among them “Der Sommer meiner Mutter,” which was longlisted for the German Book Prize, and “Für ein Leben,” for which he received the Alfred Döblin Prize.
