Rotraut Susanne Berner

Rotraut Susanne Berner (born in Stuttgart in 1948) studied graphic design in Munich. After working in publishing advertising and designing numerous book covers, she worked from 1977 as a freelance book designer, illustrator, and author. She created books for children and adults and also wrote texts for some of her illustrated works. She became known in particular for her wordless picture stories, seasonal seek-and-find books, and the picture-book series Karlchen. In 2006, she received the Special Prize of the German Youth Literature Prize for her complete works; in 2016, she received the Hans Christian Andersen Award and the Grand Prize of the Academy for Children’s and Young Adult Literature in Volkach.
