Feridun Zaimoglu (born 1964 in Bolu, Turkey) studied art and medicine in Kiel. He worked as a writer, playwright, screenwriter and journalist. His debut, »Kanak Sprak« (1995), and the story collection »Abschaum« (1997) initially established him as an underground author; »Abschaum« was later made into the film »Kanak Attack«. His novels include »Leyla«, »Liebesbrand«, »Siebentürmeviertel«, »Evangelio«, »Die Geschichte der Frau« and »Bewältigung«. Zaimoglu received, among other honors, the Hebbel Prize (2002), the Jury Prize at the Ingeborg Bachmann Competition (2003), the Adelbert von Chamisso Prize (2004), the Hugo Ball Prize (2005), the Prize of the Houses of Literature (2012) and the Berlin Literature Prize (2016).
