Hilal Sezgin (born 1970 in Frankfurt am Main) studied philosophy, sociology and German studies there, completing an M.A. in 1995. After early work for Hessischer Rundfunk, she spent seven years on the features desk of the Frankfurter Rundschau. She subsequently worked as a freelance author and journalist for publications including taz, Frankfurter Rundschau, Berliner Zeitung and Die Zeit. Her books include Landleben, Artgerecht ist nur die Freiheit, Hilal Sezgins Tierleben and Wieso? Weshalb? Vegan! Wieso? Weshalb? Vegan! received the 2017 “Most Beautiful German Books” award from Stiftung Buchkunst, while Artgerecht ist nur die Freiheit spent ten weeks on the Spiegel bestseller list.
