Julia Franck, born in Berlin in 1970, studied Pre-Columbian American Studies, philosophy and modern German literature at the Free University of Berlin. She made her debut with »Der neue Koch« in 1997, followed by works including »Liebediener« (1999), »Bauchlandung. Geschichten zum Anfassen« (2000), »Lagerfeuer« (2003), »Die Mittagsfrau« (2007), »Rücken an Rücken« (2011) and »Welten auseinander« (2021). She received the German Book Prize in 2007 for »Die Mittagsfrau«, which has been translated into numerous languages and adapted for film. In 2005, she was a fellow at the Villa Massimo in Rome. In 2022, she received the Schiller Memorial Prize.
