Yamen Hussein (born 1984 in Homs) is a Syrian poet and journalist. His critical reporting on the Syrian regime drew the attention of the security authorities; he was expelled from university and detained for a period. In 2014, he came to Germany as a fellow of the Writers in Exile programme. His first poems in German appeared in 2017 in the PEN anthology »Zuflucht in Deutschland. Texte verfolgter Autoren«. This was followed by »Lieber Said« (2018), a dialogue with the poet Said from Tehran, and the bilingual poetry collections »Siebzehn Minuten« (2020) and »Nachruf auf die Leere« (2021).
