Samuel Mago

Samuel Mago, born in Budapest in 1996, is an Austrian writer, artist, and activist from a Roma family with Jewish roots on his mother’s side. In 2014, he won the “Sag’s Multi” speech competition with a speech about Roma, antigypsyism, and tolerance. He received the Exil Youth Literature Prize in 2015 for his short story “Zeuge der Freiheit” and the Roma Literature Prize of the PEN Club in 2016. His literary debut, “Glücksmacher – e baxt romani,” was published by Edition Exil in 2017. Co-written with his brother Károly Mago, the book comprises 13 short stories from the world of the Roma.
