Ilma Ingold-Rakusa, born in 1946 in Slovakia to a Hungarian mother and a Slovenian father, studied Slavic and Romance languages and literatures in Zurich, Paris, and St. Petersburg. She has worked as an author, critic, and translator from Russian, Serbo-Croatian, Hungarian, and French. Her literary work includes poetry, prose, the memoir »Mehr Meer«, and the poetry collections »Impressum: Langsames Licht« and »Mein Alphabet«. Among her distinctions are the Swiss Book Prize (2009), the Berlin Literature Prize (2017), and the Kleist Prize (2019).
