Born in 1985, Lars Ruppel began performing on poetry-slam stages at the age of 16. In 2014, he became German-language Poetry Slam Champion; he also won two team titles and was runner-up twice. He gained wider recognition with the slam-poetry band project “Holger, die Waldfee.” In 2009, he directed the first Poetry Slam Championships in Sudan for the Goethe-Institut and took part in international projects and workshops in countries including India, Russia, and the United States. Through his poetry project “Weckworte,” he connected poetry with care for people with dementia and intellectual disabilities. Until 2013, he also coached the national poetry-slam football team.
