Veronika Rieger was born in Lower Austria in 1959 and grew up in the southern part of the region. After completing a university programme at the Vienna University of Economics and Business, she held various professional positions. In 2012, she began writing crime novels. Her series centres on retired Chief Inspector Bruno Specht, who encounters different cases across Austria’s federal states. The novels combine crime plots with regional and historical details. Writing crime fiction fulfilled a childhood dream for Rieger.
