Francoise Cactus

Françoise Cactus, born Françoise Van Hove, was born in Burgundy, France, in 1964 and died of cancer in 2021. After studying in Besançon and Paris, she moved to Berlin in 1985, where she founded the band Lolitas. From 1993 onward, she formed the duo Stereo Total with Brezel Göring, performing as its singer and drummer. Together they released more than 15 regular albums and toured internationally. Cactus also worked as a layout artist for the newspaper taz, hosted a radio program on Radio Eins, and pursued visual art. One of her notable works was “Wollita,” a life-size crocheted doll that became the subject of a press scandal during an exhibition on love and eroticism.
