Sonja Eismann

Sonja Eismann (born 1973) is a journalist and cultural studies scholar. She studied comparative literature in Vienna, Mannheim, Dijon and Santa Cruz, California. Eismann co-founded the magazine nylon and was a co-founder, co-publisher and editor of Missy Magazine. She worked as an author and journalist for publications and broadcasters including Spex, taz, Der Freitag and Deutschlandfunk Kultur. Her research has focused on representations of gender in pop culture. From 2016 to 2022, she served on the Goethe-Institut’s Music Council; in 2024, she held the pop studies professorship at the University of Paderborn.
