Jan Morris (born 1926) was a writer and journalist. After studying at Oxford, she worked as a reporter and in 1953 accompanied Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay during the first ascent of Mount Everest. She published numerous works, including “Rätsel” (1974) and two novels. Morris was a Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature.
