Thomas Jefferson (1743–1826) was an American politician and statesman. During the American Revolutionary War, he drafted the United States Declaration of Independence and was elected the country’s third president in 1801. In his engagement with the teachings of Jesus, he compiled the so-called Jefferson Bible, which omits the miracle stories from the Gospels.
