Aleksandar Hemon

Aleksandar Hemon was born in Sarajevo in 1964. He was in the United States on a cultural exchange in 1992 and remained there in exile after the siege of Sarajevo began. From 1995 onward, he wrote in English and published in venues including The New Yorker, Granta, and The Paris Review. His works include the story collection The Question of Bruno (2000), the novel Nowhere Man (2002), and Lazarus. Nowhere Man was nominated for the National Book Critics Circle Award. In 2004, Hemon received a MacArthur Fellowship, popularly known as a “Genius Grant.”
