Geraldine Brooks was born in Sydney in 1955. She worked for eleven years as a foreign correspondent for The Wall Street Journal, reporting from around the world. In 2006, she received the Pulitzer Prize for her debut novel, »Auf freiem Feld«. Her novel »Das Pesttuch« became an international bestseller and was translated into 25 languages.
