Marlon James, born in 1970 in Kingston, Jamaica, is a Jamaican novelist. Before beginning his literary career, he worked for more than ten years as a copywriter and graphic designer, including for the dancehall musician Sean Paul and the New York Times’ T Magazine. His novels include “Der Kult,” “The Book of Night Women” (2009), and “A Brief History of Seven Killings.” “The Book of Night Women” received the Dayton Literary Peace Prize and the Minnesota Book Award. For “A Brief History of Seven Killings,” James received the Man Booker Prize, becoming the first Jamaican to win the award.
