Louise Erdrich, born in 1954, is an American writer of Ojibwe and German-American heritage. Her best-known novels include *Love Medicine*, *The Beet Queen*, *The Master Butchers Singing Club*, *The Round House* and *The Night Watchman*. Her work has received, among other honors, the Pulitzer Prize, the National Book Award, the PEN/Saul Bellow Award and the Library of Congress Prize.
