Hito Steyerl

Hito Steyerl studied film in Tokyo and Munich and earned a doctorate in philosophy from the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna. She worked as a filmmaker, video artist and author. Her texts, performances and essay films explore media, technology and the circulation of images, as well as postcolonial critique and feminist logics of representation. Her work has been shown at venues including the Venice Biennale, the Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles and the Museum of Modern Art in New York. In 2017, the British art magazine ArtReview ranked her first in its Power 100 list of influential figures in the art world.
