Matthias Quent (born 1986, Dr. phil.) is a sociologist and professor of sociology at Magdeburg-Stendal University of Applied Sciences. He studied sociology, political science and modern history at Friedrich Schiller University Jena and the University of Leicester. His research and teaching have focused, among other topics, on right-wing extremism and terrorism, the promotion of democracy, and the social consequences of digitalization and ecological transformation. Quent founded the Institute for Democracy and Civil Society (IDZ) in Jena and led it until 2022. His nonfiction book “Deutschland rechts außen” (2019) became a Spiegel bestseller and received the Friedrich Ebert Foundation’s “Das politische Buch 2020” award.
