Araba Evelyn Johnston-Arthur

Araba Evelyn Johnston-Arthur studied African Studies as well as Racism and Migration Studies in Legon, Ghana, Vienna and London. In 2004, she completed her studies with a thesis on the construction of the “Moor” and “Moorish woman” in the context of epistemic violence and neocolonial experiences in the African diaspora in Austria. In 1996, she co-founded “Pamoja” and was active in Austria’s Black movement. As curator of the exhibition project “Verborgene Geschichte(n) – Remapping Mozart,” she initiated the Black Research Group. Her areas of focus include Black politics and representation, institutional racism and Black empowerment.
