Saki was the pen name of the British writer Hector Hugh Munro (1870–1916). Born in British Burma, now Myanmar, he grew up in England. After working for the British police in Burma, he returned to England for health reasons. He later became a journalist and worked as a foreign correspondent in Russia and the Balkans. Alongside journalism, he wrote numerous short stories. From 1914, he served as a volunteer soldier in the First World War and was killed in the Battle of the Somme in 1916.
