Abraham “Bram” Stoker (1847–1912) was an Irish author. He studied at Trinity College Dublin and initially worked in the civil service before becoming a journalist and theatre critic. After moving to London, he worked as personal assistant and business manager to the actor and theatre director Henry Irving at the Lyceum Theatre. Alongside this work, he wrote novels and short stories. Stoker is best known for his 1897 Gothic novel Dracula, which became a classic of horror literature and a defining work of the vampire novel. His other novels include The Jewel of Seven Stars and The Lair of the White Worm. Stoker died in London in 1912.
