Henri Barbusse

Henri Barbusse (1873–1935) was a French writer, journalist, and political activist. Born in Asnières-sur-Seine, he first published poetry and novels. During the First World War, he served in the French army; his experiences shaped the pacifist war novel “Le Feu” (1916), which won the Prix Goncourt. His other works include “Clarté” (1919). After the war, Barbusse became involved in pacifist and antifascist movements and joined the French Communist Party in 1923. He edited several newspapers and journals and died in Moscow in 1935.
