Homer

Homer (Greek: Homeros) was probably a Greek epic poet of the 8th century BCE. The epics *Iliad* and *Odyssey* are attributed to him, although scholars have long debated whether they were composed by a single historical person. No reliable information has survived about Homer’s life, birthplace, or date of death, and his historical existence has also been questioned. Regardless, the two epics had a lasting influence on literary and cultural history.
