Edgar Rice Burroughs (1875–1950) was an American writer known for adventure fiction and early fantasy and science fiction. His best-known creations include Tarzan, John Carter of Mars from the Barsoom series, and Carson Napier of Venus from the Amtor series. He also wrote the Pellucidar series and the Caspak trilogy. Burroughs produced more than 50 novels and numerous short stories. His California ranch, which he named Tarzana Ranch, gave its name to the later Los Angeles neighborhood of Tarzana.
