Christian Bauer (born 1977) is a French chess player who became a professional in 1998. That year, he won the zonal tournament in Andorra. In 1999, he competed in the FIDE World Championship in Las Vegas. With the French national team, he finished runner-up at the 2001 European Team Championship and third in 2005; in 2011, he received the gold medal as the event’s best reserve player. Bauer won the French Championship three times, in 1996, 2012 and 2015, and became French rapid-chess champion in 2015. His books include “Play 1...b6,” “The Philidor Files / Tout sur la Défense Philidor,” and “Play the Scandinavian / Jouez la Scandinave.”
