Elke Schwab was born in Saarbrücken in 1964 and grew up in the Saarland region of Germany. After attending school in Saarlouis, she worked for more than 20 years at the Saarland Ministry of Social Affairs, in the department responsible for elderly policy. She published her first book in 2000. Since then, she has published more than 20 crime novels as well as several short stories. Her crime fiction is mainly written as police procedurals in the whodunit tradition; one of her recurring characters is Chief Inspector Kullmann. In 2013, 2014, and 2016, she received the Saarländischer Autorenpreis of the HomBuch in the crime-fiction category. In 2013, she was also awarded the Cultural Prize of the Saarlouis District for literary work with a regional focus. She wrote adventure stories as a child.
