Mariano Delgado

Mariano Delgado, born in 1955 in Spain, is a theologian and church historian. From 1997 to 2025, he was Professor of Medieval and Modern Church History at the University of Fribourg, Switzerland. From 2008, he also directed the university’s Institute for the Study of Religions and Interreligious Dialogue. His research and publications focus on church and mission history, political theology in the early modern period, the Spanish Empire, and Spanish mysticism. Delgado holds, among other degrees, a habilitation in theology and a doctorate in philosophy, as well as an honorary doctorate in theology.
