Zukiswa Wanner is a writer, editor and publisher. She was born in Zambia; her father is from South Africa and her mother from present-day Zimbabwe. She grew up in Zimbabwe. Her debut novel, “The Madams” (2006), was shortlisted for the K. Sello Duiker Award in 2007. Her third novel, “Men of the South” (2010), was nominated for the Best Book Commonwealth Writers’ Prize and the Herman Charles Bosman Award in 2011. In 2020, Wanner received the Goethe Medal jointly with Ian McEwan and Elvira Espejo Ayca; according to the source, she was the first African woman to receive the award.
