Carola Lentz is an ethnologist and senior research professor at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz. After conducting fieldwork in South America, she devoted more than three decades to research, particularly in Ghana and neighboring Burkina Faso. Her book “Land, Mobility and Belonging in West Africa” received the African Studies Association’s Melville Herskovits Award in 2014 for the best English-language publication on Africa. Together with historian David Lowe, she published “Remembering Independence” (2018). From 2018 to 2020, she served as vice president of the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences and Humanities.
