Ferda Ataman

Ferda Ataman is a journalist, author and political scientist. She attended the Berlin School of Journalism and worked, among other places, for the Tagesspiegel and Spiegel Online. She also headed public relations at the Federal Anti-Discrimination Agency and helped establish the Mediendienst Integration, an information service on migration, integration and asylum. From 2018 to 2020, she wrote the SPIEGEL column “Heimatkunde.” In 2019, S. Fischer published her book “Hört auf zu fragen. Ich bin von hier,” which sparked a debate about belonging in Germany under the hashtag #vonhier. Ataman also worked as a speechwriter for Armin Laschet and co-founded the neue deutsche organisationen network. In 2019, she received the Julie und August Bebel Prize for innovative and emancipatory contributions to civic education.
