Melinda Gates, born in 1964, is an American entrepreneur and philanthropist. She studied computer science and economics before pursuing a career at the software company Microsoft. As co-chair of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, she worked particularly to improve health and education and to advance the rights and empowerment of women and girls. She also founded Pivotal Ventures, an investment and incubation company focused on social progress for women and families in the United States.
