Wolfgang Hegewald

Wolfgang Hegewald was born in Dresden in 1952 and studied computer science and Protestant theology in Dresden and Leipzig. He moved from East Germany to Hamburg in 1983, where he initially worked as a freelance author of prose and radio plays. From 1993, he directed the Studio Literatur und Theater at the University of Tübingen. From 1996 until his retirement in 2018, he was Professor of Rhetoric, Poetics and Creative Writing at HAW Hamburg. He received recognition at the Ingeborg Bachmann Prize in Klagenfurt in 1984 and a Villa Massimo fellowship in Rome in 1987–88. His novels include “Jakob Oberlin oder Die Kunst der Heimat,” “Die Zeit der Tagediebe,” and “Ein obskures Nest.”
