Stephan Wackwitz, born in Stuttgart in 1952, is a German writer and essayist. He spent 26 years abroad. His publications include the novels *Die Wahrheit über Sancho Pansa* and *Walkers Gleichung*, cultural-historical autobiographical books about Tokyo, Eastern Europe and the Caucasus, and historical-biographical works about his grandfather and mother, including *Ein unsichtbares Land* and *Die Bilder meiner Mutter*. Wackwitz received the Wilhelm Müller Prize in 2010, the Samuel-Bogumil-Linde Prize in 2012 and the Wilhelm Lehmann Literature Prize in 2016.
