Ulrich Holbein

Ulrich Holbein (born 1953 in Erfurt) is a German writer and essayist. He published novels, essays, columns, and numerous contributions to publications including the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, Frankfurter Rundschau, Süddeutsche Zeitung, and Die Zeit. His works include “Ozeanische Sekunde” (1993), “Isis entschleiert” (2000), “Weltverschönerung” (2008), and “Unheilige Narren” (2012). Persian-Arabic mysticism is a recurring subject in his writing; among other works, he published a lexicon of holy fools. In 2012, Holbein received the Kassel Literature Prize for Grotesque Humor.
