Volker Kauder

Volker Kauder, born in 1949 in Hoffenheim, is a German lawyer and Christian Democratic politician. After studying law, he began his political career in 1980 as district administrator in the Tuttlingen district. He was a member of the German Bundestag from 1990 and chaired the CDU/CSU parliamentary group from 2005 to 2018. In speeches and events at the Bundestag, Kauder repeatedly addressed the issue of freedom of religion worldwide. He joined the CDU at the age of 16 and, by his own account, initially wanted to become a circus director.
