Born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, in 1942, Daniel Barenboim is an internationally active pianist and conductor. He became particularly well known for conducting major orchestras around the world. Barenboim served as general director of the Berlin State Opera and co-founded the Music Kindergarten and the Barenboim-Said Academy. He also supported the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra, which brings together young musicians from Israel and Arab countries.
