Annette Schavan

Annette Schavan (born 1955) is a German politician and diplomat. From 1995 to 2005, she served as Minister of Education, Youth and Sport in Baden-Württemberg, and from 2005 to 2013 as Federal Minister of Education and Research. She was a member of the Baden-Württemberg state parliament from 2001 to 2005 and of the German Bundestag from 2005 to 2014. From 2014 to 2018, she served as Germany’s ambassador to the Holy See. Earlier, from 1991 to 1995, she headed the Cusanuswerk episcopal scholarship foundation. Schavan edited the volume “Päpste vor Parlamenten. In Verantwortung vor Gott und den Menschen” and has taught at university level.
