Michael Opielka

Michael Opielka is a sociologist and academic. He received his doctorate from Humboldt University of Berlin in 1996 and completed his habilitation in sociology at the University of Hamburg in 2008. From 2012 to 2016, he headed the Institute for Futures Studies and Technology Assessment (IZT) in Berlin. In 2015, he was a visiting professor of social sustainability at Leipzig University. He was also a visiting scholar at the University of California, Berkeley, in 1990 and 2005. His professional positions have included scientific director of the Institute for Social Ecology (ISÖ) in Siegburg and a professorship in social policy at Ernst Abbe University of Applied Sciences Jena.
