Norbert Blüm (1935–2020), who held a doctorate in philosophy, first completed an apprenticeship as a toolmaker before studying subjects including German and philosophy. He was a member of the German Bundestag from 1972 to 2002. From 1982 to 1998, he served as Federal Minister of Labour and Social Affairs and also held senior positions in the CDU and its workers’ organizations. Blüm published several books.
