Eckard Michels

Eckard Michels, born in 1962, studied history in Hamburg and received his doctorate in 1993. He completed his habilitation in 2007. He worked at the Bundeswehr University in Hamburg, the Haus der Geschichte in Bonn, and the OSCE mission in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and taught German history at Birkbeck College, University of London. Michels has published extensively on modern German and European history. His books include The Hero of German East Africa: Paul von Lettow-Vorbeck – A Prussian Colonial Officer (2008).
