Walter Renneisen

Walter Renneisen (born in 1940 in Mainz) studied theatre, German literature and philosophy before attending the Westfälische Schauspielschule in Bochum. After engagements at theatres in Bochum, Dortmund and Darmstadt, he worked as a freelance actor in radio, film and television. He became known for series such as “Der König” and “Rote Erde”, as well as appearances in “Tatort” and “Der Alte”. He also took part in more than 200 radio plays, including “The Lord of the Rings”, in which he voiced Gimli. Before his acting training, he earned money as a musician in a beat band. He received the Hörspielpreis der Kriegsblinden in 1985 and the Adolf Grimme Award in 1995.
