Dorothy L. Sayers (1893–1957) was an English writer and literary scholar. She studied at Somerville College, Oxford, where she was among the first women to earn an academic qualification in medieval literature. Her first crime novel was published in 1923 and introduced Lord Peter Wimsey, the aristocratic amateur detective who became her best-known character. In later years, Sayers focused again on medieval literature and also wrote literary criticism.
