Georges Simenon (1903–1989) was a Belgian writer, born in Liège and died in Lausanne. He became internationally known for Commissaire Maigret, the detective he created in 1929 and featured in 75 novels. Simenon also published 117 other novels and more than 150 short stories, including psychologically focused works without Maigret. In 1972, after completing his 193rd novel, he ended his writing career.
