Gisbert Haefs (born in 1950 in Wachtendonk on the Lower Rhine) was a German writer, translator, and editor. He studied English and Hispanic studies at the University of Bonn. As a translator and editor, he worked on writings by Ambrose Bierce, Rudyard Kipling, Jorge Luis Borges, Mark Twain, Arthur Conan Doyle, and Bob Dylan, among others. He became known for crime novels, including the series featuring the Bonn private detective Baltasar Matzbach, as well as historical novels such as Hannibal, Alexander, and Troy. He also wrote short stories, radio plays, and science-fiction adventures.
