Ellis Peters was the pseudonym of the English author Edith Pargeter (1913–1995). She mainly wrote crime fiction and gained international recognition for the cases featuring Inspector George Felse and for her historical Brother Cadfael series. Pargeter’s experience as a pharmacy assistant informed the character of Brother Cadfael, a Benedictine monk with knowledge of medicinal herbs. One of her Inspector Felse mysteries received the Edgar Allan Poe Award.
