Sebastian Kapp was born in 1987 in Nettetal-Breyell in the Lower Rhine region of Germany. He studied cultural economics at the University of Duisburg-Essen and later European ethnology in Bamberg. After completing a journalistic traineeship at the Augsburger Allgemeine and the Günter Holland School of Journalism, he worked as an editor. His debut novel is The Empress of Essen. An earlier short story featuring the characters Emma Koslowski and Anne Bonny, titled The Empress of Respiratory Masks, appeared in the anthology Tage wie diese.
