Moritz Rinke, born in 1967 in Worpswede, studied applied theatre studies in Gießen. Alongside his studies, he wrote columns and reportage and worked for the Berliner „Tagesspiegel“ from 1994 to 1996. He received the Axel Springer Prize twice for his reportage. In 1995, he made his debut as a playwright with „Der graue Engel“. His best-known plays include „Republik Vineta“, „Wir lieben und wissen nichts“ and „Westend“. „Republik Vineta“ was named the best German-language play of the 2000/01 season; several of his plays were nominated for the Mülheim Drama Prize. His debut novel, „Der Mann, der durch das Jahrhundert fiel“, was published in 2010 and became a bestseller. His other novels include „Der längste Tag im Leben des Pedro Fernández García“ (2021) and „Unser kompliziertes Leben“ (2023). In 2024, Rinke received the Ben-Witter Prize.
